Nick Devlog 1
This devlog covers my contributions to Milestone 1:
The first new mechanic I added was dashing. When the player (working keybind) presses Left Shift the character will have a slight boost forward as a way to move out of the way of attacks or get around faster. The ability to dash then goes on a 1.25 second cooldown. The reasoning behind the cooldown is that the dash should be available when needed but not always there. It might be changed again in the future but for testing its been good.
The second mechanic is Wall Jumping. When the player is midair and up against a wall they are able to perform an extra jump. The player by default gets two jumps, one from off the ground and a second when midair. The wall jump does NOT replenish their jump so they're limited in that sense but if they are able to stay in the air long enough they can get a second (or more) wall jumps.
The last thing I added was less of a new mechanic but rather a prototype weapon for Ryan's combat system. What I added was a mockup of the player's melee form combos. The light combo (currently bound to E) is three short range attacks that are quick to execute. The heavy combo (currently bound to F) begins with a stab-dash forward (this moves the player) and then a swing up followed by a swing down. These attacks are slower than the light combo and do more damage.
